Days until expiry calculator
Enter the day something expires and see how many days are left, then download calendar reminders for 90, 60, 30, 14, 7 or 1 day before. It works for a domain, a TLS certificate, a contract or a subscription.
Days until the date
-- days
Friday, August 13, 2027
A domain, a certificate, a contract. Up to 60 characters; it is kept in the link.
The last day it is valid.
Note: The file is made in your browser and downloaded; nothing is uploaded. It holds an all-day entry on the expiry date with an alarm for each reminder you picked. Whether your calendar turns those alarms into notifications depends on the app, and we have not tested every one.
Reminder dates for something that expires on Friday, August 13, 2027
Each reminder is the expiry date minus a number of calendar days. For an expiry date of Friday, August 13, 2027, the file would hold these days. A reminder that falls on a day that has already passed is left out when you download.
Counting back by days, not by months, keeps the arithmetic exact: 30 days before is always 30 steps on the calendar, whatever the month.
| Reminder | Day |
|---|---|
| 90 days before | Saturday, May 15, 2027 |
| 60 days before | Monday, June 14, 2027 |
| 30 days before | Wednesday, July 14, 2027 |
| 14 days before | Friday, July 30, 2027 |
| 7 days before | Friday, August 6, 2027 |
| 1 day before | Thursday, August 12, 2027 |
How do I calculate the days until an expiry date?
Subtract today’s date from the expiry date, counting calendar days: tomorrow is 1 day away, today is 0 and yesterday is 1 day ago. The calculator does this on plain calendar dates with no time zone, so it never changes by an hour into the wrong day, and it shows the same answer as counting on a wall calendar.
Is the expiry day itself included?
The count stops at the expiry date: on that day the answer is “Today”, not 1. If your document is valid through the end of the expiry day, you have until then; if it ends at the start of the day, it is already over. Check the exact wording of the contract or the certificate before you plan around the last day.
How do I get the expiry date of a TLS certificate?
A web page cannot read the certificate of another site, so this tool cannot fetch it for you. Copy the “valid until” date from the certificate details in your browser, or from the dashboard of the provider that issued it, and type it here. The menu path differs between browsers, so we do not describe it step by step.
How do the calendar reminders work?
The download is an iCalendar file (.ics) with an all-day entry on the expiry date and one alarm for each reminder you pick. Open it with your calendar app to import it. If your app ignores alarms in imported files, tick the option that adds a separate entry on each reminder day, which every calendar shows. Reminders for days that have already passed are left out.
How early should I set a reminder?
Rule of thumb: the further the work is from a single click, the earlier the reminder. A domain renewal is one payment, so a month and a week before is usually enough; a certificate that has to be reissued or a contract that has to be renegotiated needs 60 or 90 days. For domains, ICANN’s policy has registrars send notices about a month and about a week before expiry, so a reminder of your own at 90 days gives you a head start.
Questions about days until expiry calculator
Does the calculator use my time zone?
Only to find out which calendar day it is for you today. After that it works with plain dates, so two people who type the same date on the same day get the same count.
Is my date or title uploaded anywhere?
No. The count and the file are made in your browser. The calculator keeps the date and the title (up to 60 characters) in the page address as you type, so a copied link shares the same view. Do not put personal details in the title.
Can I use it for a domain I just looked up?
Yes. The result of the expiration checker has a link that fills the date and the domain name for you. Because registries state the expiry as a UTC instant, a name that expires early on a UTC day is still in the evening of the day before in the Americas; if that matters, set your reminder a day earlier.
Why did my reminder get left out?
The file only includes reminders that are still in the future. If the date is 20 days away, the 30-day reminder has passed and is skipped; the page says which ones it dropped.
Will every calendar app show the alarms?
We cannot promise that. The alarm is part of the standard file, but how an app treats alarms in an imported entry depends on the app, and we have not tested them all. The extra entries on each reminder day avoid the question.
Can it count business days instead of calendar days?
Not here: this tool counts calendar days, which is how expiry dates are written. For working days, use a business days calculator with the holiday list of your own country.

- ICANN: Expired Registration Recovery Policy (version of 21 February 2024)
Section 2.1: at least two notices before expiry (about a month and about a week) and one more within five days after expiry. Section 2.2: DNS interruption for names deleted within eight days of expiry, or for at least the last eight days of renewal otherwise. Section 3: a 30-day Redemption Grace Period in gTLD registries, with DNS disabled and transfers prohibited. Contracted parties may implement it from 21 August 2024 and must by 21 August 2025.

Not confirmed: We did not test how every calendar app treats alarms in an imported file. The reminder choices (90, 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day) are a rule of thumb of this site, not a rule of any registry or certificate authority.
This is information, not advice. A registry or registrar can change a record at any time. Before you rely on a date, confirm it with your registrar, who is the only one that can renew the domain.
